One of the brightest melodic metal bands to hit the scene Circus Maximus deliver a great mix of heavy edge and melody to perfection. Forget Dream Theater who have lost the magic by disappearing up their own backsides and check these guy's out! Recommended!

8. GARY JOHN BARDEN - On and On (from the album Past & Present) - AOR Heaven - 2004 - UK
Ex Michael Schenker Group voice takes the lead singing a bunch of toons from his MSG days stripped back and acoustic. Fans of MSG and Barden will no doubtedly enjoy this album which was released last year. Layed back yet done very well.

9. ASTRAL DOORS - Lionheart (from the album Evil is Forever) - Locomotive Music - 2005 - Sweden
Hardly wimps here. Along with Starbreaker Astral Doors is probably my album of the year thus far. Very much traditional heavy metal in its moulding vocalist Nils Patrik Johansson reigns supreme like a 6 foot Ronnie James Dio with elephant balls crossed crossed with Sabbath era Tony Martin. Quite a strong and varied album all up which inspires heavy metal faces and shape throwing of the highest order. Fans of Dio, Sabbath & Rainbow check this out!

10. ACE LANE- See You In Heaven (from the album See You In Heaven) - Expulsion Records - 1983 - UK
NWOBHM of sorts from the Ace Lane band here. Old track of melodic proportions to bring memories of the glory days flooding back.

11. SHANIA TWAIN - Send It With Love (from the Complete Limelight Sessions) 1989 - Canada
Mrs Mutt Lange here getting some help ? from aor icon Paul Sabu. Pardon the snicker. Taken from the Limelight Sessions and released in many different formats over the years this has been released again Send It With Love just recently. Gotta say she does the rock stuff really well and Send It With Love is a stand out.

12. NATALIE IMBRUGLIA - Sanctuary (from the album Counting Down The Days) - Brightside Records - 2005 - Australia
Pop princess Natalie Imbruglia should appeal to also appeal to aor fans and I thought she was worthy of an airing here to balance up the pop. Her latest album might not be as strong as previous efforts but I pick this toon out as a fave with more aor leanings.

13. BLACK SYMPHONY - Never - (from the album Black Symphony) 1998 - USA
Bit of golden oldie this one but still an fave here from a band that is way too under rated in my book so this one is featured for no other reason other than I adore the band.
8 June 2005
14. WHEATUS - Lemonade (from the album Suck Fony)- 2005 - USA
Bit of a deviation to alterno power pop here with Wheatus but to my ears this could well be one of the songs of the year! Up-vibe to the hilt and an absolute gem of a chorus!!! KILLER TRACK!!!
